Band Biography
Emerging from the heart of Belfast, Northern Ireland, SOLOTHURN are carving out their place in the UK and Irish metal scene with their ferocious blend of heavy, melodic riffs, stoner rock grooves, and hook-driven vocals. Drawing comparisons to the likes of Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Deftones, and Tool, the band’s sound is a towering wall of reverb-drenched noise and raw emotion.
SOLOTHURN’s music confronts the darkest aspects of modern existence, exploring themes of addiction, societal decay and governmental failure against the crumbling backdrop of Belfast’s inner city.
The band burst onto the scene with their debut EP Servitude (November 2023), a devastating exploration of the fractured psyche of modern urban life. The release immediately caught the attention of critics across Ireland, the UK, and Europe, earning spots on multiple “EP of the Year,” “Single of the Year,” and “Newcomer of the Year” lists. The acclaim established SOLOTHURN as one of the scene’s most promising newcomers, with their unique blend of heaviness and melodic sensibility setting them apart from their peers.
Despite being relative newcomers to the live circuit, SOLOTHURN’s stage presence proved equally commanding. After only four live performances, the band reached the finals of Northern Ireland’s prestigious Bloodstock Metal 2 the Masses competition in May 2024 – an extraordinary achievement that demonstrated their immediate impact. Uber-Rock.co.uk captured the essence of their live power, describing their performances as a “dominant and domineering exhibition.”
Building on this early live success, 2025 has marked a pivotal year for SOLOTHURN’s evolution. Beginning the year as a four-piece and playing shows across major cities in Ireland, the band’s trajectory changed when their paths crossed with a new guitarist during pre-production in June. This completed their lineup and pushed the sound in a more progressive direction.
Throughout 2025, SOLOTHURN have been working closely with acclaimed producers to refine their sonic vision. Collaborations with Frankie McClay at Einstein Studios and Neal Calderwood at Manor Park Studios have helped shape their expanding sound, culminating in their latest single “Hollow” – their most atmospheric and devastating work yet.
Critics have recognised SOLOTHURN’s undeniable potential: “SOLOTHURN are the real deal. They’ve shown they’re ready to climb the ranks of the modern metal scene, louder, heavier, and hungrier than ever. Keep your eyes (and ears) on this band”.
