Band Biography
Emerging from the heart of Belfast, Northern Ireland, SOLOTHURN are carving out their place in the UK and Irish scene with their ferocious blend of heavy, melodic riffs, stoner rock grooves, and hook-driven vocals. Drawing comparisons to the likes of Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Deftones, and Tool, the band’s sound is a towering wall of reverb-drenched noise and raw emotion.
Their debut EP, Servitude (2023), delves deep into the fractured psyche of modern urban life, tackling themes of addiction, societal decay, and governmental failure—all against the crumbling backdrop of Belfast’s inner city. Critics across Ireland, the UK, and Europe quickly took notice, with the EP earning spots on “EP of the Year,” “Single of the Year,” and “Newcomer of the Year” lists.
SOLOTHURN stormed into Northern Ireland’s Bloodstock Metal 2 the Masses competition, reaching the finals in May 2024—an extraordinary feat after only four live shows. Uber-Rock.co.uk hailed their live performances as a “dominant and domineering exhibition,” setting the stage for even greater things.
January 2025 has seen the band working closely with acclaimed producer Frankie McClay at Einstein Studios and SOLOTHURN is set to release the first of three powerful new singles, Waves, in March 2025. This release also marks the introduction of Mike Andrews on lead guitar who is set to be a long term contributor (live and in the studio) whilst adding a new dynamic to the sound.
